How To Know That You're Over Your Ex

By Cathy Svedka

You're broken hearted. Sigh. I sympathize, I really do. You've just broken up with someone you really liked, maybe even loved, and you're bummed. As events go, this rates about as high on the emotion meter as your dog dying and losing your fabulous job. There is light at the end of the tunnel and you will usually get there. It's a bit of a journey, so take your friends, a bottle of vodka and a large cheesecake on the journey.

Notice I said "most of the time"? That's because in everyone's life there is one sad sack for whom we carry a torch forever. It's unfortunate, but that's life. However, in this particular case, you're too smart, sexy and all around awesome to mope for long, right? You'll know the grieving process is coming to an end when you experience one or more of the following;

1. You hardly ever think to check for his car when you drive past his work these days. And the only reason you drive past his work is because it's on the most direct route to your parent's house. No need to go the long way around after all!

2. A really cute stranger asks you if you have a boy/girlfriend and you answer "no" instead of "I just broke up with someone" which is what you've been saying for months.

3. It was his dad's birthday last Tuesday and you only just now remembered, and it's Friday.

4. You got a new number and forgot to give it to him.

5. You go out on a date and don't have to stop yourself from talking about your ex.

6. "That scarf you bought at that place when you were with him" is now just "your favorite scarf". No strings attached.

7. You know how you used to "see" him everywhere, no matter where you went? It's no longer an issue, your vision is clear.

8. When you read your daily horoscope, you don't automatically read his as well.

9. You "unfriended" him on Facebook a couple of days ago. You hadn't visited his page for weeks.

10. You've started comparing new guys against your own standards rather than comparing them to your ex. - 31991
